Magenta AI Call Assistant by Deutsche Telekom

In the recent announcement on 2nd March, 2026 Deutsche Telekom has announced that they are soon launching a new AI-powered feature called Magenta AI Call Assistant later in 2026 in partnership with ElevenLabs. Magenta AI Call Assistant will bring AI services directly into phone calls on its network.

The German mobile provider, which also holds a majority stake in T-Mobile in the United States, revealed the new capability as part of its AI strategy. The assistant will initially be available in Germany and works directly within phone calls without requiring an app or a specific smartphone.

The goal is to embed AI capabilities directly into telecom infrastructure so that AI becomes part of the conversation itself.

What Features Does the Magenta AI Call Assistant Offer

With Magenta AI Call Assistant, you will no longer require separate applications or premium hardware for AI assistant features, the AI assistant will work through a normal phone call.

According to Deutsche Telekom, the system will enable services such as:

  • Live language translation during calls
  • Conversation summaries for follow-ups
  • Contextual assistance, including answering questions or retrieving relevant information

The assistant is activated during a conversation using the phrase “Hey Magenta.” Once activated, it can provide real-time support while the call continues.

A New Vision for AI-Supported Phone Calls

Deutsche Telekom introduced the technology at Mobile World Congress 2026, presenting it as a step toward AI-supported phone communication.

Abdu Mudesir, Board Member for Product & Technology at Deutsche Telekom, explained the company’s approach:

Our customers will get AI services like translation right in their calls. With our Magenta AI Call Assistant, we are the first in the world to offer these network based AI functions. We remove barriers — no apps, no special devices, no technical complexity. AI becomes simple, intuitive and available to everyone.

The assistant is designed to support common real-world situations during conversations.

Examples include:

  • Suggesting nearby restaurants when people discuss where to meet
  • Comparing travel options while planning a trip
  • Checking availability when coordinating appointments
  • Translating languages in real time when language barriers arise

Over the next 12 months, Deutsche Telekom plans to expand support to up to 50 languages, with additional services expected to follow.

From Conversations to Actions

Deutsche Telekom has a long-term vision for their Call Assistant. The next level is to turn conversations into actionable outcomes.

For example, if a discussion during a call leads to a booking decision, the AI assistant could potentially:

  • Make restaurant reservations
  • Schedule doctor appointments
  • Arrange travel bookings
  • Fill out forms and confirm details

The assistant can ask questions such as preferred time or seating and document confirmations at the end of the process.

Privacy and User Consent

The company emphasized that privacy and transparency are their main concern and top priority.

To activate an AI assistant, customers must opt-in and activate the assistant phrase: Hey Magenta. Moreover customers will be notified when the assistant gets active.

Without explicit activation, no conversation is stored and analyzed.

Partnership With ElevenLabs

The Magenta AI Call Assistant is a joint venture by ElevenLabs and Deutsche Telekom. ElvensLab is a well established AI research and product company known for voice AI models. Its CEO Mati Staniszewski described the partnership as a shift in how phone calls work:

Together with Telekom, we are redefining what a phone call can be. For the first time, AI agents will be embedded directly inside a call — translating languages, integrating context, and taking action in real time.

The network-level technical integration was carried out by Radisys.

What This Means for the Future of Voice AI

Deutsche Telekom’s approach signals a broader shift toward network-level AI in telecommunications.

Instead of relying solely on apps or external services, telecom operators are beginning to embed AI directly inside their infrastructure.

According to Mudesir, the company’s long-term objective is to become an AI-first telecom provider, enabling secure AI experiences directly through everyday communication tools.
